Beijing Exerts Pressure to Silence Falsely Arrested Journalist

As the countdown to the Beijing Olympics continues, a Guangdong journalist named Huang Xiong who was falsely detained by Beijing police is being pressured to keep silent about his ordeal. Huang Xiong was erroneously detained   for a night on suspicion of soliciting prostitutes. No formal detention documentation was ever produced. He subsequently appealed this detention online, and also to the Central Propaganda Department, the Ministry of Public Security and the Beijing Public Security Bureau. But no resolution was forthcoming. Huang Xiong's friends continue to demand respect for his rights through online forums, but Beijing's departments concerned as well as Huang Xiong's work unit--China Production Safety News--and concerned propaganda departments have exerted pressure to silence him. The state that his misfortune will be resolved after the Olympic Games are safely completed, but right now nothing can be allowed to disrupt the Olympics.
