Shenzhen Water Pollution Seriously Threatens Hong Kong
by Xiao Xiong

This year Shenzhen residents have noticed a marked deterioration in the quality of their tap water, which gives off a noxious odor. On Sunday November 2 Shenzhen's Environmental Protection Bureau's third quarter report revealed that the city's water quality had decreased .35 percent due to industrial waste water contamination of the city's water source. The report identified 23 corporations seriously violating the law by contaminating the water supply. The report also revealed that this year more than 1,150 fines levied for sever pollution of the water supply.

Researchers maintain that Shenzhen's water quality has precipitously declined year after year. It has gotten so bad recently that Shenzhen faced no choice but to reject large investment in six hospital projects (including four Traditional Chinese Medicine hospitals). Also, Hong Kong sources its public water supply in Shenzhen, so this problem seriously threatens not only Shenzhen residents but also the quality of Hong Kong's water supply.

Due to this problem many people see no choice but to leave Shenzhen, this city with the serious water quality problem.
