American Investor in China Swindled, Receives Death Threat
by Long Xiao, Boxun Exclusive Report

"China is a good place to make money. But you have to be careful!" This is the conclusion of John Louis Corporation Director Robert Lee, after he was cheated by a Chinese partner, received a death threat, and had his request for a criminal investigation rejected.

The dispute involves a shipment of home furnishings worth 180,000 yuan (US$ 23,000). It is fully documented and attested to by the Shanghai shipping company that the Chinese partner--Xinghua Lumber LLC of Harbin, Heilongjiang Province--cancelled the shipping of the already inspected and paid for products. The U.S. entity filed a criminal complaint with the Harbin Public Security Bureau regarding the disappearance of their products on September 26, 2008. Within four days a "preliminary investigation" was initiated. But this "preliminary investigation" continued for more than three months.

On January 1, 2009 the U.S. company's China represented received an anonymous death threat by telephone, warning her to rescind the accusation. And on January 10, 2009, the Harbin Public Security Bureau declined to formally investigate the case.
