Boxun reports that on Tuesday July 7 moderate Uighur scholar Ilham Tohti--founder of the Uighur Online blog (http://www.uighurbiz.cn) and economics professor at Beijing's Central Nationalities University--was arrested in Beijing.

Ilham resolutely opposes the use of violence in resolving China's ethnic disputes. He advocates Uighurs and Hans working together to secure their democratic rights. Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region Chairman Nur Bekri has labeled Uighur Online as a primary instigator of the Sunday July 5 violence in Urumqi.
