by Xiao Xiong In a sign of Guangdong Province's media censorship campaign increasing in intensity, groundbreaking newspaper Southern Metropolis Daily Sunday December 14 stopped publishing its eight-month-old weekly supplement "Commentary Weekly." That section of the newspaper has been reconfigured as "Reading and Reflecting." In response to a spring 2008 order to reduce by half its news commentary, Southern Metropolis Daily launched the Commentary Weekly supplement that came out every Sunday and took a macrolevel approach to social issues. But even this compromise the authorities could not accept. Today's Southern Metropolis Daily contained no explanation or apology for the change.
