National Peoples Congress Chairman Wu Bangguo's Italy Delegation Clashes with Chinese-Language Reporters

China Free Press via Boxun reports that on the evening of Thursday May 21, Communist Party Politburo Standing Committee member and National Peoples Congress (NPC) Chairman Wu Bangguo was visiting Italy and having a photograph taken with a delegation of Overseas Chinese representatives, Overseas Chinese students and Chinese-invested enterprises when a National Peoples Congress information officer ordered the expulsion of duly credentialed reporters from Phoenix Satellite Television and other Chinese-language media outlets. The journalists strongly protested, leading to a disturbance.

After the information officer said "We do not need you Chinese-language media, you must all leave," the journalists immediately protested.

"Do you know how patriotic Chinese-language reporters in Europe are?"

"Your kind of official is more despicable than corrupt officials."

"You are a traitor to our ethnicity."

"You are a beast in human clothing, you are lower than a dog."

The information official then threatened: "If you don't leave immediately, I will have your reporting equipment confiscated."

This further enraged the reporters, who called out, "Please do not so wantonly violate our human rights while in the Republic of Italy. We have the legitimate right to report. Do you really dare to confiscate our equipment?"

Shortly after this outburst the NPC delegation sat down to a banquet free of media oversight.
