Gao Yaojie's statement: My Three Policies, Other People Do Not Represent Me Nor Do They Speak on My Behalf

After receving the annual women's rights award from the women's organizations Vital Voices on April 2nd, I returned to China. I saw lawyer Yang Shaogang in order to certify the will that I had drawn up two years ago. The central point of this testament is that no organization or individual should use my name to make a fund, or organization or to receive contributions.
Then I stayed with my brother in Kaifeng for a week. I have kept a low profile ever since my return to China. But when I returned to my home in Zhengzhou, I found that my telephone was not working -- I can't dial out and nobody can dial my phone. Messages from outside can call my phone, but the phone does not ring. My cell phone has the same problem. Thus I completely lost contact with the outside world, becoming deaf, dumb and blind. Even my daughter was unable to call me.
On April 15, the Asia Week [Yazhou Zhoukan] journalist Ji Shoming visited me in Zhengzhou. Unable to dial my telephone, someone showed the way to my door. On that day I was feeling badly since even though the Central Committee pays considerable attention to AIDS, and has announced some policies, but implementation at the grassroots is a serious problem. This makes my pessimistic about the AIDS problem in China. What I have done is not for myself -- I am 80 years old, so what could I want for myself? What worries me is that the Ministry of Health some time ago already announced that HIV has spread from the high risk groups to ordinary people. If this continues, what will the Chinese nation be able to do? Thinking about this, I feel that life has no meaning and so I call myself a failure.
A Text Message
On April 20, the interview was published in Asia Week. After it appeared, was I heard from South China Morning News [Huanan Zaobao] journalist Zhai Yunting on April 20, many journalists in mainland China and in Hong Kong got an instant message from the same source. The message text is:
"A plea for help. Henan's anti-AIDS fighter, the elderly lady Gao Yaojie is not in a good situation. Her assistant Ms. Gao 13120261679"
I don't know what the purpose of this broadcast instant message sent out in the name of Gao Yikun was. If it was not sent by Gao Yikun, the person sending the message would know her cell phone number, so why not contact her directly for proof? Gao Yikun stated that she has nothing to do with this, and said that the reports in Yazhou Week and elsewhere are not truthful in many places. She sent an email to my younger sister in the USA, saying that lawyer Yang Shaogang said that the Asia Week report are not truthful.
I don't believe that lawyer Yang Shaogang would say such a thing. The Asia Week report was accurate and reported just what I said. Moreover, my movements have not been restricted, only my telephone malfunction have cut me off from outside contact. Many people have been sending my messages asking about my situation. I thank everyone for their concern.
How Can I Trust You?
Many people told me, Gao Yikun has all along been telling people that she is my assistant. I must state here that she is not my assistant. Although Gao Yikun has the same family name as I do, we are not related in any way. She works at the Dongzhenan Cultural Propagation Center, also known as "Dongzhen". Dongzhen is charitable organization established by Li Dancheng which has in the past helped AIDS orphans in Kaifang, Shangqiu and other areas. Gao Yikun as an employee of Dongzhen, accompanied me to Nanjing to take part in a lecture she had organized on AIDS prevention. She accompanied me on this trip to the USA as my interpreter. If this made her my assistant, then our relationship ended with the trip. I hope she will no longer tell people that she is my assistant since I am unable to trust her.
While we were in the USA, Gao Yikun told me that she had found a scholar who wanted to translate and published "One Hundred Thousand Letters" and "Report on AIDS in China". She wanted me to sign over all the publication rights to me books to Li Dan for him to handle. I thought it was strange. If someone wants to publish my book, why don't they sign an agreement with me directly. Later, Gao Yikun asked that the person who pays for the book rights to pay directly to Li Dan's account. Later, she kept people from getting in touch with me such as Zeng Jinyan who called me from China. She refused to let Zeng speak directly to me, angering Zeng.
The founder of "Dongzhen" Li Dan, got involved early in AIDS prevention work and has indeed done some good work. Li Dan organized AIDS prevention lectures at many universities. I participated as much as my strength permitted. Yet later I did hear negative things about Li from other people in the AIDS prevention community. I think that some errors are to be expected from young people without experience, so I warned him time and again to focus on helping people infected with HIV and AIDS orphans. This time I have given up on Li. As some people have confirmed, Li Dan got contributions from abroad to help AIDS orphans but after getting the money did not use it to help the orphans of Weishi county. I don't know how that money was used. Some people have told me that Li is in financial difficulties. I don't know how the money and awards received heretofore from abroad have been used.
Three Announcements
Summing up, I am making three statements:
1. The Asia Week report is completely correct. I am not in good health. For a long time I have suffered from high blood pressure, heart disease, stomach problems etc. I have been taking medicine to keep these problems under control so my health is really the same as it has been for quite some time. It is my feelings that are very low right now.
2. Gao Yikun is not my assistant. If from this date forward she still states that she is my assistant, I will take the necessary measures.
3. From the date of this announcement, I will follow these three policies:
1. Don't establish an organization.
2. Don't accept contributions.
3. Don't collaborate with other people. If anyone uses my name for any activity, no matter how sweet their words may sound, I will take the necessary measures.
