The Truth Behind the Demotion of Southern Metropolis Daily's Editor-in-Chief Ms. Jiang Yiping
by Li Ai

Jiang Yiping has been stripped of her editorship of Southern Metropolis Daily. She has been demoted to the Southern News Group's Journalism Research Institute

The Southern News Group suddenly announced on Wednesday December 3 that Ms. Jiang Yiping--co-founder of "Southern Weekend," Southern News Group's deputy editor-in-chief, and Southern Daily's Editorial Board member--has been stripped of her duties as editor-in-chief of Southern Metropolis Daily and been demoted to Southern Agriculture News and Southern News' Journalism Research Institute. Southern Metropolis Daily--considered the most daring media outlet in China--will now be directly administered by Southern News Group's publisher Yang Xingfeng. This news was verified on Thursday December 4.

Former Southern Weekend editor-in-chief and Southern Metropolis Daily editor-in-chief Jiang Yiping is 52 years old and is a graduate of Sun Yat-sen University. She is a dedicated veteran journalist, and Southern News personnel guess that the reason for her demotion is that her dedication to factual reporting brought her into conflict with authorities, and that this was their example, to take revenge on her.
