Ridiculously, Jie Mu was falsely claimed to be gangster by police.
In an official newspaper ¨C Nanjing Morning, the propaganda report claims that Jie Mu (Sun Lin) and others (more than 20 people arrested) are mafia that owns guns and knives.
Boxun editor countered this false claim:Chinese version
1. In sensitive cases, China does not have ¡°news¡± but propaganda. The authors of the official article above must NOT interview police, they must NOT show up in the scene, they will never be able and never interview any of the charged ones. They only write articles based on the sentences provided by police department. In the last two days actions, police violated China¡¯s law to arrest dozens of innocent people without showing any paperwork. Can we trust what said by police that arrest people illegally and beat the innocents? One of the released was beaten by Nanjing policeman.

One of the authors in this official "news" is Ning Gong Xuan, a pen name representing Nanjing Police Propaganda Department. Media in Nanjing receive "news" from this department named as "Ning Gong Xuan". Boxun editor searched google, more than 1,200 "news" found under this pen name.

2. On May 29, when one detainee asked why he was arrested, the policeman told him: it is ordered by higher government. In fact, Jie Mu went to Beijing and Qinhuangdao during May 22-25, he did four interviews in four different locations. Jie Mu¡¯s video in Tiananmen and interview SaiYuan Xue She - an NGO that was closed by government. Why did Nanjing police arrest him after he returned from Beijing?
3. The charge said Jie Mu controlled a mafia that collects fee from illegal taxi. How could police reach such a conclusion within 24 hours of arrest? What is the evidence? Does police know that this type of conclusion should be made by court not police?
On May 17, Jie Mu went to Yang Zhou to report a demolition incident, at the end of video interview, his car was smashed by local mafia in front of police. Jie Mu drove away, and his car was followed by mafia. Jie Mu¡¯s car reached 180 KM/hour to escape. Does Jie Mu looks like a mafia in any way?

It is strongly recommended that readers go through Jie Mu¡¯s reports in the last nine months, does a mafia will ever do such things?
The false charge against Jie Mu indicates that government uses false criminal charge to punish political dissidents.
