According to official news,  a coal mine in Shandong was flooded on August 17, 180 coal miners failed to get out. It is believed that coal miners died as the coal mine was submerged for two days already.

Official news did not explain the reason of flood. Boxun learned that dozens of reservoirs discharged large amount of water after heavy rain, the discharge was not informed the coal mine located on the path of flood.

The official death toll of coal miners is 13 a day on average, people believe the true number must be higher as many incidents covered up. For example, Boxun reported one accident that killed about 100 coal miners on July 17 in Shanxi. The families of dead coal miners were offered about $6000 fee for shutting up the mouth, some protested for the low compensation and were arrested.
